Gaad'e Baath and the rituals to the past

Gaad'e Baath or Fish curry with rice is popular dish common amongst Kashmiri people. Now, I am a fan of fish, fry them, bake them, steam them or just boil them. I love them in all forms. As far as I knew, fish was outside the menu for most north Indians, but two of my years living with Kashmiri Pundits revealed otherwise.

The offering of fish and rice is kept at the top of the building as a goodwill to the gods of the past, which some believe is the Yeti. As far as I am concerned, it is the legends of the Yasha, a tribe that lived in the Himalayas before the Aryans settled in Kashmir and India.

The legend of this legendary barter between the aryans and the non aryans in India was captured in almost an Americas thanks giving way. The Yasha or the Yeti ofcourse is now ofcourse a creature of the distant past and in a semi-mythological state. The rice and the fish are supposed to vanish to ensure that the demi god is happy and the family members blessed, in reality however, the kids of the house are more than happy to finish it off.
