Cruise missiles can take out aircraft carriers long before they reach their intended waterways. The aircraft carrier is more of a statement of power than an actual weapon of war of the future.
In the last 20 years aircraft carriers has been only operated by countries which had achieved air superiority in the war.
To get the facts right, the last time the aircraft carrier was used by evenly matched contestants, was the 80s in the Falklands war, that was before beyond visual range combat was born.
That said India still needs the aircraft carriers. It is more likely to be used by India in a proxy war against China in Africa or Indonesia, than against an actual war with Pakistan.
